Tucked away in the quiet suburb of Newlands, the Vineyard Hotel & Spa is one of Cape Town’s oldest hotels.
Built in the late 18th-century as a private country home by Lady Anne Barnard, the Vineyard Hotel has seen the city grow around it, and has itself become something of a local landmark. It's been through several extensive renovations (the hotel as it stands today consists of only one of the original structures), but it has managed to keep a sense of place and history despite the changes within and without. It occupies the same six acre plot of land overlooking the Liesbeeck River as it always has, and remains a haven from its busy city surrounds.
The Vineyard Hotel is about 15 minutes by car from the city centre and the V&A Waterfront, and within easy walking distance of a number of shops and restaurants.
Accommodation
The Vineyard Hotel & Spa offers 207 rooms, which range from standard Deluxe rooms to very plush Suites. Each enjoys a view of either the hotel courtyard or Table Mountain.
All of the rooms at the Vineyard, including the standard Deluxe rooms, are beautifully furnished and generously proportioned, with large bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms with separate bath and shower. The Suites enjoy separate living areas and private terraces. Standard amenities include air-con, tea/coffee facilities, satellite TV, WiFi, wall safe, hair dryer and direct dial telephone.
Paraplegic and connecting family rooms are available.
In addition to the guest rooms outlined above, the Vineyard also offers five self-catering cottages, positioned in the gardens and separate from the main hotel.
Dining
The Vineyard Hotel & Spa boasts two outstanding restaurants: the five-star ‘Au Jardin’, serving French haute cuisine, and the more relaxed ‘Square’, a great favourite for breakfast and dinner, as well as a popular sushi bar.
