Located overlooking the Bua River, Tongole is a delightfully small and exclusive luxury lodge in a quiet, peaceful setting, right within the heart of Nkhotakota Game Reserve.
While the Nkhotakota reserve offers quite limited opportunities for game-viewing – though this is set to change, with plans for the reintroduction of rhino, cheetah and giraffe to supplement Nkhotakota’s existing wildlife stocks (which at present include elephant, lion and buffalo) – it’s a great place for those looking to relax and escape the crowds, with a range of activities – from walking and birding to river canoeing and fishing – all available within the park.
Accommodation
Tongole is a small lodge with only four standard suites and a single family suite, all with river views. As if to compensate for the small size of the camp, the rooms themselves are huge structures with high thatched roofs and canvas sides. All of Tongole’s rooms have polished floors and are open fronted with wrought iron shutters so guests can sleep peacefully whilst still enjoying the cool night air. Each has a separate sitting area and open plan bathroom with shower, a large sunken bath with views over the bush, and a separate loo. Outside there is a wide wrap-around veranda with comfy chairs.

Meals at Tongole are served in the open-air dining area overlooking the Bua River. Guests can dine privately if they wish.

Tongole accommodates children over the age of eight, unless the entire lodge is booked in which case younger children can be accommodated on request.
Over 16s are charged full adult rates. Children aged 8-16 pay 50% adult rate if sharing a room.
