Located on the coast just 4km from Hoi An town, where it overlooks a long stretch of white, sandy beach, Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort and Spa is a French-owned resort built in traditional Vietnamese style. The Victoria has been designed to resemble a village, complete with quaint lantern-lit streets, terracotta footpaths, wooden awnings and public squares. You’ll either find it hopelessly twee or totally charming—we tend to the latter view; the theme isn’t follow to excess, and it helps set the Victoria apart from its neighbours.
There are lots of other quirky little touches to the Victoria Hoi An that contribute to its unique style. Complimentary transfers into town are offered in a restored Renault bus or old-fashioned motorbikes equipped with side cars. Clapped out wooden fishing boats have been salvaged and converted into everything from the tables at the restaurant to plant pots. The Victoria has more character than most beach resorts.
A minor caveat: coastal erosion in recent years means that the Victoria has, rather unfortunately for a beach hotel, lost much of its immediate beachfront. However, it is situated directly next to a private, and rather beautiful, sandy cove, only most of the rooms don’t open directly onto it.
Accommodation
You have a choice of garden, river or ocean view rooms at Hoi An Victoria. All of the 109 rooms have their own balcony and sun loungers, and the views are generally great, whether of the Thu Bon River that runs in front of the hotel or of Cua Dai Beach. The style of the rooms vary with either Vietnamese, Japanese or Classic French accents.
Dining
The Victoria Hoi An has a lovely main restaurant, L’Annam, which serves Vietnamese, Indian and European dishes throughout the day, indoors or alfresco.
