Tucked away down a small side street in Luang Prabang’s Old Quarter, Victoria Xiengthong Palace is a beautiful boutique hotel. Converted from a old French villa, it stands alongside golden temple stupas and old wooden Laotian homes, and looks out over the town and river. The town centre and night market are only a few minutes’ walk away.
Victoria Xiengthong is the only Laos property in the Victoria collection, a French hotel chain that operates throughout South-East Asia. Its guest rooms and public areas are all beautifully presented in a stylish but understated style. The rooms are located in separate villas, which overlook the central courtyard with its carefully-tended flower beds and elaborate water features.
Victoria Xiengthong Palace is slightly larger, and more uniform in style, than most of the other hotels in Luang Prabang’s Old Quarter, giving it the feel of a boutique resort rather than a guesthouse. Its 24 modern rooms are all furnished in identical fashion and thus lack some of the character of the rooms at, for instance, 3 Nagas. But they’re exceptionally comfortable and very well-located.
Accommodation
Victoria Xiengthong’s 26 rooms have been carefully renovated using local materials to stylish effect. There are four categories, ranging from Palace Rooms to Mekong Suites. The Palace rooms are a little cramped, though this is true of most hotels in the centre of town, where space is limited. The Mekong and Victoria suites are more spacious. There are also six private villa suites, which have their own Jacuzzi plunge pools—the closest you’ll get to a swimming pool in Luang Prabang’s Old Quarter!
Standard room amenities include: AC, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathrooms are generously sized and feature separate bathtubs and walk-in showers.
