Vumbura Plains Camp is a high-end luxury camp situated in a private concession (Vumbura Reserve) in the far north of the Okavango Delta, close to Moremi Game Reserve. Along with sister camp Little Vumbura, it enjoys exclusive access to 60,000 hectares of private wilderness that is as geographically diverse as it is rich in game.
Vumbura Plains Camp is sited beneath a canopy of trees in the middle of the Vumbura floodplains. It is raised above the floodplains on pale wooden decking, and features open-air public areas decorated in a very modern style.
With 14 guest rooms, Vumbura Plains is a large camp by Delta standards. However, it has been divided into two separate wings, north and south, each with their own public areas and facilities. This, combined with the large guest rooms (all with private plunge pool), gives Vumbura Plains a very exclusive feel.
Game-viewing in the Vumbura Plains is terrific. Many credibly argue that this is the best region of the Delta for big game viewing. Large elephant and antelope herds are regularly sighted, as are the big cats (lion, leopard, cheetah), and a number of rarer species such as wild dog. Guests at the camp enjoy access to the private 60,000 acre Vumbura Reserve as well as nearby Moremi Game Reserve. Both land and water-based activities are possible—4x4 drives, mokoro safaris, and (rather limited) bush walks are offered throughout the year, while motorboat safaris are dependent on the water levels.
Accommodation
Vumbura Plains’ fourteen luxury rooms are split between two distinct sections of the camp, each with seven rooms. They are built on raised platforms and connected to the main guest areas by wooden walkways. They are spaced well apart and enclosed within wooden walls, lending them a very intimate feel.
All of the rooms are decorated in a similar, contemporary style, with pale wooden floorboards, built-in lounge furniture, and glass sliding doors—quite unlike anything else in the Delta. Each suite has its own private sala, outdoor shower, and plunge pool overlooking the floodplains.
Dining
Vumbura Plains is much more flexible than most camps when it comes to dining. Meals are typically served around a shared dining table in the open-air dining room overlooking the plains, but you can opt for private dining if preferred. Meal times are also flexible. Dinner is table d’hôte, with a selection of menus.
All drinks are included, with the exception of premium brands and champagne.
