Waterberry Zambezi is a small, mid-range lodge which occupies a lovely spot on the banks of the Zambezi River, about 30 minutes from Livingstone. It provides a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of town, while still being close enough to allow for easy access to the local attractions. The Victoria Falls is a short 45 minute drive from the lodge.
Waterberry Zambezi Lodge has a lovely setting. It is named after the waterberry trees that line the banks of the Zambezi River where it sits. The guest cottages, of which there are just seven, are scattered around well-tended gardens, most with a direct view of the river and the Zimbabwe Game Park on the opposite bank.
The main guest area at Waterberry Zambezi is a large, thatched structure, built on two levels, comprising upstairs bar and lounge and downstairs dining area. There is also a small pool with sun loungers and a viewing deck.
Waterberry Zambezi Lodge is a fairly simple lodge, but it offers excellent value for money. The atmosphere is peaceful, and a welcome change from the larger resort-style lodges that are your main alternative in this price range.
Accommodation
Waterberry Zambezi Lodge has just seven rooms, located within spacious stone-and-thatch cottages with en-suite facilities. They are spread across the gardens, some positioned directly on the riverbank, others overlooking a private dam. Inside, the décor is largely identical, though the size of the cottages varies (some have two bedrooms). All are furnished in a simple but tasteful fashion. Most have a private deck.
A recent addition to Waterberry Lodge is the private Farmhouse. Built in 2013, this is located a short distance from the main lodge and is meant to be booked on an exclusive basis. It contains four bedrooms (accommodating up to eight), and comes with its own dedicated chef. It’s particularly well suited to families.
Dining
Waterberry Zambezi Lodge is typically booked on a full-board basis, with all meals included. A light ‘continental’ buffet is provided each morning, with hot dishes to order. Packed lunches can be prepared if you’re heading out on activities. Dinner is a fixed three-course meal.
Meals can be taken with other guests in the dining room/outside terrace, or in private on your room deck.
