The Zanzibar Coffee House is a friendly, low-cost guesthouse that sits on top of a coffee shop in central Stone Town. It’s a simple B&B, but the pleasant staff and central location give Zanzibar Coffee House an edge over other similarly priced Stone Town guesthouses.
Though small, the Zanzibar Coffee House has a buzzing atmosphere, thanks to the ground floor coffee shop, which is often busy with locals and travellers alike. The beans are roasted on-site, giving the place a wonderful aroma of coffee!
The Zanzibar Coffee House lacks the facilities of Stone Town’s more expensive hotels. The rooms are sparsely furnished and lack amenities such as TVs. There’s no pool or spa. What this old 19th-century Zanzibari home does offer is generous hospitality and an authentic atmosphere, not to mention a great location in the centre of town.
Accommodation
The Zanzibar Coffee House offers just eight rooms, each individually decorated. The rooms are basic but comfortable. Each is furnished with traditional Zanzibari carved wooden furniture, including four-poster beds. There are a small number of suites which are larger and more elaborately furnished. All of the rooms are spotlessly clean. Some do, however, lack en-suite bathroom facilities, and should be avoided. We can advise on the best rooms.
Dining
Zanzibar Coffee House’s downstairs café and coffee shop serves a variety of blends, as well as fresh deserts and a range of light food. It doesn’t offer much in the way of cooked food, so for evening meals you’ll likely want to explore the many restaurants and market stalls that Stone Town has to offer.
