Visa Requirements

UK passport holders require a visa to enter Tanzania. This can be obtained prior to travel or on arrival – the Visa fee is US$50 cash for UK and most other passport holders; $100 for US citizens. Please note that new regulations (put in place in August 2019) mean the queues to obtain visas on arrival can be very long–approx 2 hours. We now recommend that you obtain your visa before travelling to Tanzania.

To apply for an online e-visa you are required to make your application via the Tanzania e-visa application portal for more detailed instructions. The application process is simple and does not require you to send your passport in the post. Turnaround is typically within 10 days, but the process can take longer so we recommend applying a month in advance.

Alternatively, you can apply for a visa by post to the Tanzania High Commission in London. For more information, visit the Tanzania High Commission website at https://tzhc.uk/.

Passports must have at least six months validity for all visa applications. We recommend that you double check visa requirements before travel as they are subject to change at short notice.

If flying via Kenya, a Transit Visa is only required if you leave Nairobi airport. You will not need a Kenyan transit visa if you are flying to Tanzania via Nairobi without exiting Nairobi airport.

Non-UK passport holders: please consult the Tanzanian embassy or consulate in your home country for the latest advice on visas and entry requirements.
