The capital of Oman, Muscat, was historically an ancient port and fortress town overlooking the Gulf of Oman. Now it is a modern capital characterised by tasteful Arabian architecture. There are a number of world famous hotels here, such as the Al Bustan Palace, the Chedi, and the Grand Hyatt Hotel. • The best time to visit Oman is October to March. May to August can be very hot and humid. April and September are shoulder season.
