Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest needs no introduction. It is a simply vast ecosystem that spans no fewer than nine countries! Cuyabeno National Park and Yasuni National Pak are the two most accessible areas of Ecuador’s sprawling Amazonian basin, and together they comprise the best wildlife-viewing spots in the country outside of the Galapagos.

It is thought that over 600 species of bird reside in the Ecuadorian Amazon, with highlights including macaws, toucans and parakeets. Yet the region is not just a birders' paradise. Over 300 species of mammal, including sloth, tamarin and the elusive jaguar, can also found. And this isn't to mention the spectacular diversity of plant, reptile and insect life, with new species being uncovered seemingly every year, that populates the Amazon Rainforest.

On a tailormade holiday to the Amazon you can take a canopy tour through the treetops, kayak along the waterways, or take a night walk in the company of an experienced local guide who will help you seek out nocturnal creatures such as snakes and caiman. You can also visit a parrot clay lick or go piranha-fishing, search for giant river otters or the mighty anaconda, or visit with a local community to learn a little of their traditional way of life in the rainforest.
