Mpumalanga is one of South Africa’s most unique destinations. Bisected by the Drakensberg Mountains, the region encompasses a range of landscapes, from mountainous highveld to flat savannah plains.
Sometimes referred to as ‘Paradise Country’, the scenery throughout Mpumalanga is spectacular, with deep gorges, dramatic rock formations and cascading waterfalls. Among the more notable sights are the awe inspiring Blyde River Canyon and the towering rock towers, or 'Three Rondavels', so-called because they resemble traditional African round huts. Further north towards Tzaneen the scenery is altogether more picturesque, with winding passes, lush vegetation and abundant flora - including colourful azaleas and cherry trees which blossom in spring (Sept/Oct).
