Day 1: Delhi – Agra
Assemble at Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi, where you board the Maharajas' Express train for the start of your 4-day luxury rail journey.
After completing the registration formalities, you’ll be given a traditional Indian welcome and then shown to your chosen cabin – your home for the next 3 nights. Shortly afterwards, you will be led to the restaurant for a delicious brunch as you journey on towards the legendary Mughal capital, Agra.
On arrival in Agra, embark on a guided tour of the city taking in the major sights and attractions. Today’s star attraction is undoubtedly the Taj Mahal. One of the wonders of the world and a UNESCO world heritage site, it’s every bit as spectacular as you’ve heard.
Late afternoon, you have the choice of a shopping tour, optional spa session, or an extended sightseeing tour to the Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah. In the evening, return to the comfort of the Maharajas’ Express, where dinner will be waiting. Alternatively, you might like to attend an evening performance in Agra, such as the famous Mohabbat the Taj Show (at additional cost), followed by dinner in town.
Day 2: Agra – Ranthambore
Disembark early this morning for a guided tour of Agra Fort. One of India’s most iconic structures, the Agra Fort is the former royal residence of the Mughal rulers. Take your time exploring its many individual palaces, audience halls and two stunning mosques.
Return to the Maharajas’ Express for a late breakfast.
Late morning, depart for Sawai Madhopur, the closest station to Ranthambore National Park, with lunch en route. On arrival, enjoy a thrilling safari in to this well-known tiger park, hopefully spotting one of the big cats!
Ranthambore National Park
Occupying a large swathe of territory in southern Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park is one of India’s most famous tiger parks. Formerly the royal hunting grounds of the Jaipur Maharajas, today Ranthambore NP is a prominent wildlife park and conservation zone that is home to a huge diversity of species, including sambal deer, jackal, fox, sloth bear, civet, mongoose and an array of birdlife.Of course the park is most famous for its tigers. Indeed, it is one of the best locations in India to see these beautiful predators in their natural habitat. The tigers can be easily spotted during the day, busy at their daily routine of hunting and taking care of their young ones.
Return to the Maharajas' Express for a sumptuous dinner as you depart for Jaipur.
Day 3: Jaipur
Arrive in Jaipur this morning, where you disembark after breakfast.
Enjoy a morning tour of the Amber Fort, a unique blend of Mughal and Rajput styles of architecture, and the Jantar Mantar Royal Observatory, built in 1727 for Sawai Maharaja Jai Singh II, a Rajput king famed for his contributions to astrology and music. He commissioned five observatories throughout India – in Jaipur, Ujjain, Varanasi, Mathura and Delhi – but only the one at Jaipur is still functional today.
After lunch you have the option to tour the famous Jaipur bazaars or enjoy a rejuvenating spa session at the Palace Hotel (at additional cost). Alternatively, continue your sightseeing with a tour of the fabulous City Palace.
Return to the Maharajas' Express for dinner.
