Day 1: Arrive Kasane; Chobe River safari
Meet in Kasane, Botswana, at approx. noon. Your guide will give you a full safari briefing before you depart.
Your safari starts with a boat cruise on the Chobe River, providing a wonderfully relaxed introduction to Botswana! This is a chance to explore the aquatic wildlife often overlooked on a standard game drive. It’s also a great ice-breaker, allowing everyone on the safari to get to know one another in an easy setting.
After the cruise, enjoy a leisurely game drive to your private camp, as the sun sets over the Chobe River. Expect to arrive at camp just before dark. The camp team will have set up the tents and begun the dinner preparations in advance of your arrival.
NB. We can arrange for your accommodation in Kasane the night before your safari departs, and in Maun at the end. If arriving on the morning the safari commences, we will arrange for your transfer to the meeting point in Kasane.
Day 2: Chobe National Park
Explore Chobe National Park on morning and afternoon game drives. Game-viewing will focus on the Chobe Riverbank, where the greatest concentrations of wildlife gather during both dry and green seasons.
Large herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra are a constant feature of the Chobe river area, while big cat sightings are not unusual!
Lunch will be served at camp in-between the morning and afternoon game drives.
Day 3: Savuti
This morning you depart the Chobe River area and head south-west en route to Savuti.
Today’s drive will be conducted at a leisurely pace, allowing you plenty of time to stop and view game along the way, as you make your way through the heart of Chobe National Park.
Approaching Savuti, you can expect to see a change in the environment, as the lush marsh and bush-land around the Chobe River area gives way to the arid plains that define the comparatively dry south-western region of Chobe. Here, magnificent bull elephants roam the plains in a harsh, almost prehistoric environment.
Savuti is well known for its predators, with stable populations of the three big cats (lion, leopard and cheetah) as well as African wild dog. It’s a landscape that has changed markedly in the last decade, as the Savuti Channel has started flowing again, reaching the Savuti Marsh in 2010 after being dry for almost 30 years. Though still a rather arid region, new water sources have attracted a great density of wildlife to the region, including species not previously found.
You sleep tonight at a private campsite in the heart of the Savuti region.
Day 4: Savuti
Morning and afternoon game drives in the Savuti region.
Day 5: Moremi Game Reserve / Khwai
Your journey continues south, as you travel out of Chobe and into the Okavango region. Your destination is Moremi Game Reserve, the heart of the Delta.
On arrival, you’ll pitch camp in a community campsite located in the Khwai Concession, from where you’ll spend the next two days exploring the adjoining wilderness of Moremi.
Moremi is considered by many to be the most exceptional area of the Delta region, where all the major habitats of the Okavango are conserved. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the region at length over the next two days, starting this afternoon with a mokoro safari along a tributary of the Khwai River, providing a very different perspective on the area to that offered by standard 4x4 game drives.
Day 6: Moremi Game Reserve
An early start, as you set off into Moremi Game Reserve at sunrise for a morning of game-viewing, before returning to camp for lunch.
Continue your explorations of Moremi this afternoon, returning to camp by sunset.
Day 7: Maun
Set off early this morning, enjoying a game drive as you depart the Delta region and continue to Maun. Expect to arrive in Maun around noon. On arrival, you will be dropped off at the airport or at your hotel if overnighting in Maun.
