Day 1: Embark in Victoria Falls
The Stimela departs Victoria Falls station at 7pm, with boarding from 6pm.
Upon boarding, you will be offered a welcome drink in the lounge car, after which there will be a short orientation and safety talk while your luggage is delivered to your cabin.
Once you are on your way, pre-dinner drinks and canapes will be served in the bar & lounge, followed by dinner in the dining carriage. Dinner is a three-course meal, prepared in the on-board kitchen.
Following supper, coffee and liqueurs are served in the lounge carriage, where the guides will entertain you with tales of Hwange, Victoria Falls and the wider region.
It’s then time to retire to your compartment for a good night’s rest. During the night the train will travel along the northern border of Hwange National Park, with the final destination being Dete, a small railway town.
Day 2: Disembark in Dete
Arriving into Dete in the early hours, the Stimela Star will be moved into a siding at Dete Station while you continue to sleep.
After a hearty breakfast, you will be collected from Dete and transferred to your safari lodge in Hwange, or, if continuing your rail journey, to the Elephant Express, which departs from Dete.
