Day 1: Arrive Windhoek
You will be met on arrival in Windhoek and transferred to the River Crossing Guesthouse, where you will meet with the other members of your riding group.
The rest of the day is at leisure to get to know the group. If members of the group are arriving early into Windhoek, we can arrange a short afternoon guided tour, or you can choose to explore independently.
In the evening, following dinner at River Crossing, there will be a short briefing, during which you can ask any questions you may have about the riding itinerary.
Day 2: Windhoek to Twyfelfontein
An early start this morning, as you depart Windhoek and journey north to Twyfelfontein (approx. 7 hours’ drive), stopping en-route for lunch.
Arrive at Aba-Huab camp in time for an early dinner and overnight. Late this afternoon you will meet your guides and crew and of course you will be introduced to the horses.
Day 3: Twyfelfontein
After breakfast you will have a short ride so that you and your horse can get to know each other. Follow the shaded Aba-Huab riverbed, where you will have the possibility of a few quick canters.
Today you will have your first glimpse of the impressive geology of the Twyfelfontein region, notable for its massive rock and sandstone formations. There will also be time to visit the Twyfelfontein rock engravings, one of Namibia’s most important national heritage sites.
End the day with sundowners at a scenic viewpoint, before returning to Aba-Huab camp for dinner.
Day 4-7: Damaraland
The next four days will be spent exploring the wider Damaraland region, an area known for its arid semi-desert terrain and its unique desert-adapted wildlife.
Your journey will see you following dry river beds and impressive valleys and as you journey towards the Skeleton Coast. Along the way, you’ll keep an eye out for rhino, lion and elephant, amongst other species. Each day will see you stop for lunch in a shady spot, and will usually culminate at a scenic viewpoint. The campsites will be in carefully chosen spots, such as overlooking the Huab River or at the foot of the Brandberg Mountain.
Day 8-9: The Great Plains
On the morning of day 8, you leave the river valleys behind and cross the huge open plains, allowing for fast-paced riding!
En-route, enjoy views of the majestic Brandberg – Namibia’s highest mountain – and the dramatic Messum Caldera (a collapsed volcano), which stretches 18km across.
Lunch at a shady spot and continue through the plains toward the ocean. On day 9, you overnight at Skeleton Camp.
Day 10: The Skeleton Coast
After breakfast, set off for your last day’s ride, which will take you to Namibia’s most scenically dramatic destination, the Skeleton Coast.
This is a region of haunting beauty, a landscape of rolling sand dunes and mile after mile of windswept beaches, interrupted only occasionally by shipwrecks and whale carcasses, seal colonies and towering canyons.
Your amazing adventure ends with lunch on the beach, after which you will be transferred to Henties Bay. Overnight at a comfortable guesthouse in Henties Bay.
Day 11: Return Windhoek
After breakfast, depart by road for Windhoek (approx. 5-6 hours’ drive).
The tour ends in Windhoek. We can arrange for your onward transfer if continuing your stay in Namibia, or your international flight home from Windhoek.
