Day 1: Arrive Windhoek
Arrive into Windhoek and meet your driver for your private transfer to Olive Grove Guesthouse, where you stay one night in a luxury suite.
Olive Grove Guesthouse
The Olive Grove is a cosy 11-room guesthouse situated in the heart of Windhoek. The décor here has an earthy, natural feel and the use Moroccan lights and features create a warm atmosphere, which our guests love!Day 2-3: NamibRand Nature Reserve
After breakfast, you will be collected from the Olive Grove by your driver and transferred to Windhoek Eros Airport, where you board a one-hour shared charter flight to the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
On arrival in the NamibRand, you will be met and transferred to Wolwedans Dune Camp, your home for the next two nights.
Wolwedans Dune Camp
Positioned at the foot of a huge sand dune and surrounded on all sides by the sands of the Namib, the world’s oldest desert, Wolwedans Dune Camp feels as though it occupies its own little pocket of the universe. The views here are stunning, and the main public areas—open-air tents on widened decks—have been designed to make the most of them. Meals at Wolwedans Dune Camp are typically served outside on the sand dunes in an informal, relaxed atmosphere.Activities at Wolwedans Dune Camp centre on guided game walks and drives in the NamibRand Reserve. Horse riding is also possible and offers a wonderful way to explore the reserve. The landscapes are remarkable and so too is the star-gazing, the NamibRand Reserve being the only gold-tier International Dark Sky Reserve in Africa.
Day 4-6: Kaokoveld and Skeleton Coast NP
This morning you’ll fly north into the Kaokoveld, enjoying a bird’s eye view of Namibia’s stunning geography en route. On arrival, you will have a short drive to Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, where you stay three nights.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp enjoys a superb location, with access to both the Skeleton Coast National Park and to Palmwag Reserve, thus combining the marvellous landscapes of the Skeleton Coast with excellent game-viewing territory in Palmwag. Its immediate location on the edge of the transient Hoanib River in a sheltered valley allows for stunning views.Hoanib Skeleton Coast is an exclusive camp, accessible only by light aircraft on account of its remote location. With only seven luxury twin/double tents and one family tent, guests at Hoanib Skeleton Coast are guaranteed to have the surrounding wilderness almost entirely to themselves.
The next two days will be spent exploring the Kaokoveld from your base at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp. You’ll learn much about the unique flora and fauna that has adapted to this arid region, in particular the desert elephant, as you embark on guided game drives and walks, during which you can hope to see giraffe, springbok, oryx and, with luck, desert lion. During your stay at Hoanib Skeleton Coast, there will also be the opportunity to join your guide for a visit to a village belonging to the Himba, Herero or Damara tribespeople.
You will also visit the Skeleton Coast, a landscape of vast sand dunes and mile after mile of windswept beaches, interrupted only occasionally by the shipwrecks and whale carcasses that give the region its name and much of its ominous character! An amazing number of animals and plants manage to eke out an existence in this harsh environment, as freshwater springs permeate through the sands to create oases which sustain small pockets of life. Springbok, gemsbok, elephant, ostrich, jackal and brown hyena and plants such as welwitschia have adapted to the harsh conditions of the Skeleton Coast.
Day 7-9: Kunene Region
This morning, board your scheduled charter flight which will take you to the Kunene region, on the border with Angola in the extreme northern reaches of Namibia, where you spend three nights at Serra Cafema Camp.
Serra Cafema Camp
Serra Cafema is one Namibia’s most beautiful and remote safari camps. It nestles at the end of the Hartmann Valley on the banks of the Kunene River, a rare oasis in a region that is otherwise comprised largely of arid desert and harsh mountainous terrain (the camp takes its name from the Serra Cafema mountains). It shares the land with the local Himba people, who are among the last of Africa’s nomadic tribes.Serra Cafema is a very attractive camp whose design is stylish but not fussy. The public areas have been constructed from wood, stone and thatch, and incorporate a lounge and bar, outdoor dining deck, library, and small plunge pool. There’s a modern sheen to Serra Cafema, visible in the contemporary lounge furniture, the glass-panel walls, and the polished aesthetic.
Many different activities are available from Serra Cafema Camp, allowing you to explore the surrounding landscape in a variety of ways. Game drives into the Namib Desert are a highlight, as is hiking in the remote mountain and river valleys. It should be noted that the game is fairly limited in this region – expect to see, among other things, ostrich, crocodile, springbok and gemsbok – with the striking scenery the real attraction. Other activities include traversing the sand dunes on guided quad-bike excursions, as well as boating on the Kunene River (depending on water levels). You can also visit a remote Himba settlement.
Day 10: Departure
After a leisurely breakfast, board your scheduled charter flight to Windhoek, arriving approx. 2pm to connect with your international flight home or onward transfer arrangements.
