Day 1: Arrive Livingstone
You will be met on arrival at Livingstone Airport and transferred to Waterberry Zambezi Lodge, where you stay two nights (full-board basis).
Waterberry Zambezi Lodge
Waterberry Zambezi Lodge is a small and informal lodge, situated in an area of wilderness just 30 minutes’ drive from Livingstone. The lodge is in a secluded position on the banks of the spectacular Zambezi River, with wonderful views to the Zimbabwean game park on the opposite bank.
Waterberry’s en-suite guest rooms are housed in thatched cottages – some situated on the riverbank, some overlooking a small dam. Several of the rooms have their own decks for sunbathing, bird watching, and for private dinners.
Enjoy al fresco meals served in the lodge dining area or from the comfort of your room, alongside traditional bush dinners and barbecues cooked under the stars.
Your stay includes house wine and local drinks, full board and one activity per day.
Day 2: Livingstone and Victoria Falls
A wide range of activities are available during your stay at Waterberry (one activity per day is included), from tours of Victoria Falls, sunset or daytime cruises on the Zambezi River, fishing, island picnics and guided birding walks, to guided village walks, tours of the town and local markets.
Day 3: Chobe National Park
Depart Waterberry Lodge and transfer by road and boat to Muchenje Lodge, in Chobe National Park, where you stay three nights (full-board basis). The lodge is approx. two hours from Livingstone & Victoria Falls.
Muchenje Safari Lodge
Muchenje Safari Lodge sits atop a high escarpment overlooking the banks of the Chobe River and the flood plains that extend beyond, granting it a window onto what is one of Africa’s prime game-viewing areas.Muchenje is privately owned and run, and accommodates only a small number of guests at any given time in its 11 tented chalets, all of which overlook the river. This is a small, intimate lodge, providing a wonderful retreat in which to relax between game-viewing excursions into Chobe National Park. The main guest area incorporates a bar and viewing deck, a dining area with shared dining table (private dining is also possible if preferred), an outdoor boma with braai (barbecue), and a small swimming pool.
During your stay at Muchenje you can enjoy a range of activities, including game drives in 4x4 vehicles, boat safaris on the Chobe River, bush walking-safaris, night eyes (night-time game drives after dinner with stoplights), and guided village tours.
Day 4-5: Game-viewing in Chobe National Park
The next two days will be spent exploring Chobe National Park. The highlight of many safaris to Botswana, Chobe is host to huge herds of elephant and buffalo; numerous predators, including lion, leopard and wild dog; and a great diversity of plains game and birdlife.
Muchenje offers a varied safari experience. With a restricted number of guests in camp, you have a wide choice of activities to take part in, without ever feeling that you are part of a big group.
Shared game drives (max 6 per vehicle) are conducted in open and comfortable 4x4 safari vehicles, with knowledgeable, professionally-qualified guides – either in the early morning or afternoon.
Game viewing by boat on the Chobe River offers a excellent opportunity to see the huge herds of elephant for which Chobe is famous, as well as many other mammals and birds attracted to the water’s edge, not to mention aquatic species!
Bush walking safaris will allow you to learn more about the intricacies of the bush, particularly the plant and insect life that can easily be missed on traditional game drives.
Night game drives, meanwhile, are an opportunity to encounter various nocturnal species, including leopard, bushbaby, aardvark, and porcupine, though do keep in mind that sightings of many of the above are rare.
Day 6: Departure
Depart Muchenje after breakfast and transfer to Kasane Airport for your onward transfer.
